The Travel Checklist...

It’s the night before your holiday, and you haven’t packed! The panic sets in, you start throwing things into your suitcase and hope it’s not overweight. We’ve all been there and it can be quite a nightmare. When I travelled to Mauritius in December 2021, I was taking things home for family and totally forgot about my travel must haves.

The morning of my flight, I was rushing around trying to put a list together of the things I needed. Prepping myself for even more chaos, leaving it all last minute to pick up at the shops in Heathrow Airport. There were a couple of items I forgot, but lets not forget you can always find some of these last minute items in the shops at your destination.

The downside is you end up wasting valuable holiday time finding some of these items, travelling to the right shops, or spending lots of money on them in the airport. After this small travel fiasco, I vowed to never leave it last minute again and to re-use my travel checklist!

To save you time for your next holiday, I have put together a travel checklist of some of the items, plus other items I found to be more common. Depending on the destination of your trip, the items will change so it only includes general items rather than specifics.

Now, ‘Tick off as you go’.

Happy packing!

o Passport (and a photocopy of your passport to be kept separately)

o Visa (if applicable)

o Driving licence

o Currency

o Credit/Debit Card

o Phone charger

o Adapters

o Powerbank

o Underwear

o Socks

o Comfortable shoes

o Sun cream

o Medicine

o Shower flip flops

o Antibacterial gel and wipes

o Microfibre towel

o Mini first aid kit

o Tote bag

o Cheap back up phone

o Toothbrush

o Toothpaste

o Earplugs - specifically: Moldex Spark 7800 - SNR 35dB

o Eye mask

o Travel pillow

o Swimwear

o Sunglasses

o Torch – you never know when this can come in handy!

o Padlock

o Lip balm

o Toiletries (shower gel, shampoo and whatever else you need)

Clothing and footwear are not on the list as this goes without saying, but I highly recommend that you carry a spare outfit, or two, in your hand luggage. You never know when you might need it. On a long haul flight to Japan in 2019, my dearest, fellow passenger dropped their melted chocolate ice cream all over me!

And remember, as long as you have your passport and money, that is the main thing.

Enjoy your holiday!

Packing and unpacking is my worst nightmare. I’m definitely a last minuter. The less brain power I can use the better - this is perfect! More time at the airport lounge for a quick beverage a two before the flight :)
